It was all a bit surreal, arriving at the starting point for the Nike Human 10km Race and hearing what sounded like one of my favourite bands during my uni days. I dismissed it thinking, ‘what would Jebediah be doing in Singapore?’. Anyway as I got closer to the source of the music I saw them on stage. What a surprise. Sadly though no crowd to support them.
I haven’t really been homesick since moving here, but this was just a nice little surprise that made me feel all nostalgic about the good old days in the Backroom at The Grosvenor, the UWA Ref and the Big Day Out. Perth people will know what I’m talking about.
Anyway the Jebs were in town for the Nokia Baybeats 2008 event. Sadly I didn’t know about this and only turned up by chance.
The closest thing I’ve come to good Australian rock in the last 9 months is cover versions of ‘Land downunder’, and ‘Back in Black’; both of which sound awesome late at night after far too many pints! I guess I’ll have to keep an eye out for these events in future.
